Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

This is incorrect. The filtering has to happen before the content is published, so only if all posts are first checked by a moderator before being published then a forum would comply with art. 13. Yep, i would say that's right: Information society service providers that store and provide to the pub...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

I forgot my conclusion on the above: The added risk of potentially very disruptive lawsuits acted by large corporations and the lability-until-proven-otherwise of the platforms, in clear violation of the presumption of innocence, are for me enough, already, to reject Article 11 and Article 13. This ...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

It didn't pass parliament, it only passed in the rights committee. Discussion and voting in the main assembly still hasn't happened yet. That's right, thank you for correcting that. In the last days I tried to imagine what would happen if the law proposal was approved. My answers are below. I am no...

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

So, I found a Q&A to copyright academics on the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/8ugrow/eu_copyright_ama_we_are_professors_lionel_bently/ Among most academics the consensus is that Article 11 and 13 are a significant threat to free speech rights. I find extremely concerning the tr...

Re: The new Raspberry PI 3B+ audio-related review

Well... I got my Pi too. I guess I will start play with it. Maybe at some point in the future I could give one of these a spin: https://raspi.tv/2016/dac-review

Re: Open Source, Communities, and the Incoming New EU Copyrights Regulations

So, the law proposal passed at the EU parliament. However, MEP Julia Reda is keeping on fighting: https://juliareda.eu/2018/06/not-giving-up/ As a reminder, not all states agree on implementing exceptions for non-profits, so this has to be watched carefully in order to not see every single site avai...

Re: Why Linux? And why Linux for pro-audio?

I cannot comment on Apple as I have never owned a mac. I use a Mac for my everyday job as an acoustic engineer. Not for properly musical stuff, but I wrote some code to do measurements by using sound cards. I am using Mac OS El Capitan. Often Mac OS is praised to be easy to use, and it certainly is...

Re: Some disturbing news

One particular allure of Github for Microsoft could be tracking people. They probably already know that you visit github. Now, what projects do you visit? Which ones do you download? Do you develop or maintain any? Do you submit bug reports? Under GDPR they would commit a criminal offence if we wer...

Re: Fiwe - wireless audio effects

Good idea to market this to bass players! One of my bass-player friend went "meh, I don't really use effects" but the other one went crazy to try to reverse-engineer Muse's sound. Also, one of the reason why we have a combo jack/xlr as I/O is for microphones. Singers/rappers are naturally...

Re: Fiwe - wireless audio effects

On the control aspect, I totally agree that adjusting parameters on a belt-box is not practical. This is why we propose the "beacon" companion hardware, which is basically a smart wireless guitar knob that you may fix on your guitar, or on your feet for wahwah, or on the floor for a foot ...

Re: Fiwe - wireless audio effects

Nice idea, but I don't know how big part of guitarists will be ok with it. - you can't get software which will give exact enough sound for compared to some real hw pedal. Some players will stick with 'but I want sound of Boss ZYXXY-123' - controls, for certain effects you want to switch them while ...

Re: Some disturbing news

Some good points here, I think: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/microsoft-buys-github-the-linux-foundations-reaction/ Just few things from the top of my slightly drunk head: How there are still small pockets of deep mistrust of Microsoft in the open source community. I will own responsibility f...
