Re: RT MIDI

A cathedral organ has pipes that can take anything from about 10mS to 500mS to develop sound. The pipe ranks will also be metres long and possibly as much as 10 metres from the organist. How do they manage to keep that lot in time? People vastly underestimate the brain's ability to latency/jitter c...

SOUL: The First Universal Sound Language

HI There! Thanks to the Faust mailing list, I discovered this new project by Roli, the guys behind JUCE and Tracktion: https://soul-lang.org/ There are also few threads about it: https://forum.juce.com/t/soul-lang/30480 https://llllllll.co/t/soul-sound-language-juce-roli/17752 Not sure what to think...

Re: create knobs with cairo

I place the source below in public domain, so, you could grab it and do with it what ever you wont. Maybe you are the one who extend it to make it a knobman like tool for linux? :D [offTopicJoke] I don't think I will be the one, but if anybody steps in, please, whoever you are, call it "What a...

Re: RT MIDI

Not sure whether it is relevant, but I reviewed a 2007 article about latency perception here on my blog . I don't know if perception is at all similar for jitter, but as far as latency goes latency can be detected by humans starting from 2 - 3 ms. The study finds lower thresholds, but data might be ...

Re: I saw this on Facebook..

That's interesting, although it seems more like technology for professional audio in the realm of intercom & telecommunications rather than music. Or at least that is the impression I got while giving it a cursory look. Not that the two domains cannot cross-pollinate. By the way, that is a realm...

Re: MUSIC DISTROS

Yes, that happened to me once with Suse and I never used that piece of garbage again. Unacceptable. If a distro can't make an installer that won't harm Grub like most distros, I can't trust it to do much else correctly. It's not rocket science. My right, my choice. Of course! However, then you shou...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

Hello, Still quite new to doing full-blown DAW via GNU/Linux and as we all know, there are plenty of knobs to tweak. I'd really like to come up with a standard test suite that attempts to generate XRUNs so I can track progress as I fine tune my system. I'm asking for opinions on what this test shou...

Re: How does one know if an audio interface will work on Linux?

I am not an hardware expert, so I hope the following is correct. You might want to wait for other answers from other users too, as I am fishing this stuff from memory as of now, and sometimes memory is unreliable... My understanding, from this article https://www.learndigitalaudio.com/how-linux-audi...

Re: MUSIC DISTROS

And don't try to dual- or multi-boot AVLinux with another Linux distro: it will mess up your existing GRUB and you will never be able to log in your other Linux distro. Like me last week  . If your not a Linux power user, don't try it! Dual-boot with Windows is no problem. Works! Whoa. Thanks...

Re: Skip the ISO and focus on documentation?

Stop being pedantic. Most users will assume that what's supplied out of the box with 9 out of 10 distros is a "standard" release with a "standard" kernel. Not a PREEMPT kernel which they'll need to install themselves whether through compilation or package. Distros usually don't ...

Re: 16 sample buffer with Arch Linux

It is mysterious to me why an RT kernel did not work with AV linux and did work on Arch. One difference I noticed is that i have microcode installed on Arch, but not on AV. Could that be it? It could be a bug in my processor that microcode fixed. If anyone knows, please share. Unfortunately all it ...

Re: Skip the ISO and focus on documentation?

Adhering to poorly worded documentation like this is what got us into this mess in the first place. Yeah, audio will work with a standard kernel and no tuning and you can even record, but so what? If bad, outdated, documentation is what you are complaining about, than I would suggest to double chec...
