Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Oh yeah.... Math! 192 buffer size makes PD, SuperCollider, and the interface all very happy indeed. Thank you, @merlyn... in the back of my mind, I knew I needed to remember high school, and a Lowest Common Multiple. I wish I had better than 8ms latency, but I'll just change my settings whenever I'm...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

@lilith - yes, my results (with non-power-of-two frames/buffer sizes) are fairly reproducible. Some variation of course, but nothing as crazy as your 20% occurrences. Of course, now I'm afraid to run at 96 or 144 frames/buffer, since at least two programs (PureData & SuperCollider) don't seem to...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Well here's a wrench in my well-oiled laptop... Apparently Supercollider and PD don't like my fancy new frames/period sizes at all! Simple sine waves are very distorted - and they're fine when I go back to powers-of-two. I only just discovered this. I haven't yet done much to delve into the issue, j...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Well, there's probably still room for improvement, since I'm not regularly cracking 10,000 circles. But I'm still very pleased with the improvement I've made thus far! Although my processor is actually 2.4GHz, so maybe I'm doing pretty well. processor : 7 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 mode...

Re: rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

Oh, you people are the greatest. Yes - I'm getting much better results now that my frames/buffer is related to the sample rate.... 96 and 144 have both given good results of only a few xruns, starting at perfectly acceptable DSP %s. I had already read in those other threads about trying various othe...

rate my xruns: tuning assistance?

I was going to jump on the coat-tails of "Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs" but I thought a new thread might be better... I'd happily move it if people felt otherwise, though. Now that I'm using xruncounter, I'm seeing really different results than other peoples'. I usually end up w...

Re: how to compile xruncounter if you're a total novice?

Ohhhhh!!!!! Thank you, again! (you also helped with my touchpad - or, well, tried to; I gave up) I had already tried commenting out (edit: removing the "comment-out" symbols, I mean) that line, but I didn't realize it was to be run in the terminal - I thought it was part of the C code! Now...

how to compile xruncounter if you're a total novice?

This might be the wrong place to ask this... but I don't know how to use a computer. When I try to compile xruncounter (using "gcc -o xruncounter xruncounter.c" - is that not correct?) I get: root@xxxxxxx:/home/xxxxxxx# gcc -o xruncounter xruncounter.c /tmp/ccuGaKKX.o: In function `jack_xr...

Re: problems with touchpad and AVLinux

I know everyone's been on pins and needles waiting for my results. Well, I can't figure out why it works in vanilla Debian (and everything else) but not AVLinux. When I do lsmod on both versions (Debian, AVL), I *assume* the mouse/touchpad is psmouse (I don't see anything else that looks right, and ...

Re: problems with touchpad and AVLinux

Great plan, thanks! I'll try it soon and report back...

And yes, I have been using a plug-in mouse. And you're probably right - it's probably not worth the pain of a fresh install just to have some convenience when I'm on a bus.

problems with touchpad and AVLinux

So, I think this isn't really the best forum for this question, but I'm running out of options... I'm using AVLinux 2018, and, since I installed it (maybe nine months ago?) I've never had a properly working touchpad. It is only recognized as "PS/2 Generic Mouse," which means, ie, two-finge...

Re: 'Midi controller' software for sending midi CC?

My chosen method is to use PD... a number box into a [ctlout "xxx"] object, where "xxx" is the channel number. Then connect PD's MIDI Out to what-have-you MIDI In using Jack or Carla. What raboof says is true - if you make any MIDI object in PD (such as [ctlout]) then right-click...

Re: no audio over HDMI

Shoot... you were right! (I mean, thanks!) That's also, amusingly enough, the same advice I gave someone else on this forum the day I posted MY problem.... Hah! I had previously looked using QasMixer, because I thought it had all the same controls as alsa-mixer. But it doesn't! In alsa-mixer (but no...

Re: Scarlett 8i6 in Ubuntu 18

I have another Scarlett Focusrite, and if I recall correctly, the outputs were muted by default. I'd try opening a mixer program (like QasMixer; it was a little more legible for me than AlsaMixer, with the same functionality) and see if that elucidates anything. In QasMixer I remember that I had to ...

no audio over HDMI

I don't know why I can't get audio out from HDMI. I've used various USB soundcards, all good. I *USED* to be able to get HDMI audio on this same laptop... but that was with KXStudio. Now I'm using AVLinux. When I used KXStudio and Cadence, HDMI was one of the obvious options in "Configure."...
