Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

OK thanks. I've checked my package manager & have the option for : gnome-alsamixer mopidy-alsamixer alsamixergui. I take it I'll need the GUI but which of the others would be best ? My understanding is that LinuxLite is an Ubuntu based distro. I've heard of gnome but not mopidy. I don't think t...

Re: Ingen - any help appreciated

I'd like a good manual for Ingen too. Had to switch to PureData (Pd) because that's better documented. However, Pd is very old and most of the best patches are for Pd-extended which is no more. And Midi implementation is better in Pd. I wanted to make a snare drum like the legendary one on a Roland ...

Re: Android client app for musicserver op laptop

I had trouble with Samba the first time I tried to set it up, but I figured it out the second time and it's been fairly easy ever since. Must have followed a better tutorial, or one for my own distro, or something like that. I think Samba works bettter than NFS on the whole, so don't be afraid to t...

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Thanks for all your help. Tascam is on it's way today. I've downloaded the manual for it & it does have a software mixer program. This should load when I plug it in or will i get Alsamixer ? Nat sure if it does anything i can't do with the knobs. A software mixer program, eh? I'll bet you a mil...

Re: Android client app for musicserver op laptop

Thanks, In the past I' ve tried to work with Samba. Did not work out for me. Yesterday I've installed NFS (Network File System) on the laptop. I will figure out how to to connect with it from VLC on the smartphone. I'll let you know. Greetings, Samba and Linux? Easy. Use the right mouse button on a...

[...]- what format would be the best to use? Audacity offers also some aiff (I don't have a foggiest idea what that is...). However, I guess that FLAC is the best format to avoid losing quality..? - from what I've heard.. Yep. Flac stands for free lossless audio codec. Only downside, like you menti...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

any idea of what they could mean? They all happen within a second, so I think this is simply part of the process of shutting down JACK. Nothing to worry about. :) How can I check on a running instance of Jack how many ports it is using? Go by what JACK was started with. As far as I know there isn't...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

On my current system (Mint 17.1 'Rebecca') I cannot install jack_control and it is not installed. But on my "toy" (antique little laptop) with Debian 10 'Buster' it is installed. How did y'all install jack_control ? I think Mint is Debian-based as well right? Then a useful tool is 'apt-fi...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?

What @Michael Willis said. And if you just want to record one ore more audio tracks quick and dirty one can use good 'ol Audacity . And why shouldn't you? One can use a sh*tload of plugins with it (read: chorus, delay etc.) if you installed the free LV2 and LADSPA plugins via your package manager. I...

Re: No pulseaudio after KXStudio repos

[...] So the problem seems to be not jack, not Jack Sink/pulseaudio-module-jack (well, it's also a bit unstable), but a stage before that. I have installed this just the way I've done on Ubuntu based distros and Debian sooo many times before, but now I can't get it working properly. This is how I b...

Re: IK Multimedia 'group buy' 2019

At least we seem to have the same view regarding the level of hassle. Exactly. Why oh why do they make it so difficult to install those VST's? To make it more difficult to redistribute them illegally? Doesn't have to be so. I've got simple .dll ones that ask on startup if you've got a serial ( daHo...
