Re: Yo, What's Up Everyone? MC Josiah here!!! New to Linux music production!!!

[...] LMMS [...] I don't mind using just the 1.1.3 version that comes with the distro I installed, [...] the vestige plugin never seems to work on the LMMS versions that come with the distros \ I don't know why, but all distro's compile LMMS without Vestige support. Was one of the many reasons to u...

Re: Yo, What's Up Everyone? MC Josiah here!!! New to Linux music production!!!

I installed KXStudio 14.04 on my little laptop Welcome to the forums! :) Unfortunately, KXStudio as a distribution or as a repository for general audio software is no more. It's only for certain VST's and certain software like Carla that the maintainer of the repo develops. See the News section on ...

Re: Using amidi to send SYSEX to old synthetizers

I do not know what the recommended way by Korg is to update Sysex on that machine. I sometimes try to use MidiOX (yep: Windows!) for that sort of stuff. But I do not have any experience w/ uploading Sysex, only w/ downloading it to my Linux PC.

P.S. Welcome to the forums. :)

Re: New KXStudio repos on an old 16.04?

[...] So, is it possible to upgrade some dependencies, like Python or what not, and to enable the new KX repos? The reason why I am asking this is because I would like to have updated music production apps, mainly Ardour, Guitarix, MuseScore, Hydrogen, DrumGizmo and of course, Carla/JACK The all ne...

Re: Best upgrade Linux Mint

Yes - I am already busy making a backup. This is going to be a complete restart where everything has to be reinstalled. That's why it took me so long to find the motivation to upgrade to a newer Linux Mint version. Same here. So I'm still on Mint 17. See no reason to upgrade yet. My PC is of relati...

Re: Best upgrade Linux Mint

The 32-bit or 64-bit version? Considering the fact that the chance is almost nil that your system is still 32 bit you should try the 64 bit version. If that don't work, try to install the 32 bit one. BTW Backup your old data!!!!! If you install Linux, chances are that you're gonna overwrite your ol...

Re: Best upgrade Linux Mint

I always go for LTS (long term support) releases. Given the amount of internal memory (3 GB?) I'd try if Mint w/ Gnome3/Wayland works. Might be sluggish. Otherwise: install an LTS version of Mint/Ubuntu with Xorg (and Mate or Cinnamon, if Cinnamon still works in Xorg that is...).

You bet! :)

Re: Carla, Jack and Midi (ALSA?)

No that's fair, I haven't articulated myself very well. I'd like two things out of this: 1) to be able to play my keyboard as a midi keyboard, record directly into Reaper and be able to edit notes after the fact in Reaper. 2) Use the keyboard as a midi controller for controlling virtual instruments...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?

Native Linux Reaper supports native Linux VST3s of course. How can it support Windows dlls, via wine? AFAIK only LMMS [only one DAW, not Carla.] can do such things, I mean load Windows VST2 dlls using compiled-in wine bridge. The way that you state it makes perfect sense to me now. However, I keep ...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?

Native Reaper in Linux support VST3, you can check this with U-he, Surge or recent Auburn plugins Could you please elaborate on how you do that? I use Native Reaper, and recently tried to use Izotope RX 7 Decrackler. I didn't know about the version 2-3 divide, so I tried to run it through LinVST as...
